Let it Snow! Let it Snow! Let it Snow!

   

Aerin has been hoping for snow since we returned to Cincinnati. The day we arrived back from sunny Orlando, we did have a few inches on the ground. It was enough to make a snowman (Mr. Snowy as the kids called him). Aunt Sharon gave the kids a snowman kit and some snowball makers that we put to use. Aerin finally got her wish for a big snow last week. On Tuesday it literally snowed all day. We were a little worried that it wasn't going to stop! After all was said and done, we woke up to about 6-8" of powdery snow on the ground. The kids were a little disappointed that it would not pack very well into a snowman but we did find other ways of enjoying the snow. We made snow cones (not the yellow kind, thanks Ellie). Sledding was Aerin's favorite. Making snow angels is what Jack liked to do. Jack had a hard time walking in the snow because it was so deep. Ellie just about about got lost in it. A week later it is almost all still on the ground. I think today was the first day in weeks that we have made it to 32 degrees as a high. That is pretty abnormal for this area. And lucky us, it looks like we might get more snow and ice tonight and tomorrow. Oh well, the kids are still enjoying it. Check out some pictures of our snow fun here. Jack's 4th Birthday...again!

 

Well as some of you know, we celebrated Jack's 4th birthday with a birthday party for all his school friends just before we left Houston. We decided to do it that way so he would actually have some kids at his birthday party, kids he had bonded with. SO we had about 17 kids and he had a blast. His actual birthday rolled around last week and so we celebrated again, this time with just family. It was a pretty low key day but he seemed to have a good time. He did spend the entire day dressed as Peter Pan, even at the restaurant for dinner. You can check out the new (and old) birthday pictures here.

Back from Orlando

We had a great Christmas back in Alabama (click here for Christmas pictures), and have finished moving into our new place in Cincinnati.

As if our January wasn't busy enough, Jason's program at GE hosted another global training event in Orlando, so we decided to make a road trip out of it.  This was probably the longest trip we've taken together by car, and we were pretty thankful for the overhead DVD player in our new van!  The highlight of the trip down was dinner the night we arrived - Bubbalous bodacious barbeque, an Orlando favorite.

The event was held again this year at the Portofino Bay Hotel at Universal Orlando.  During the week, Jason attended the training event during the day while Sue and the kids hung by the pool or drove around Orlando hitting some favorite spots.  They also got a chance to visit Universal Studios Islands of Adventure on Tuesday, along with our friend Marigny Bostock (wife of one of Jason's friends and co-worker Jon).

Unfortunately, Sue developed strep throat during the week and needed a day to recuperate, so Jason snuck out of the Thursday session and took Aerin and Jack to Disney's Animal Kingdom!  They had so much fun, and he was really glad to have the time with just them.

At the end of the week we made our annual visit to the Magic Kingdom.  This year's theme is the "Year of a Million Dreams", so we were able to catch the new Dreams Come True parade, and several updated attractions including the Pirates of the Caribbean update with Captain Jack Sparrow!  Anyone familiar with Jack's obsession with pirates will know just how much he enjoyed this ride - and you must check out the pictures to see the pirate hat, sword, and hook he wore all day long at the park (literally, from about 1pm till after park close). 

The characters got a kick out of Jack's pirate outfit and paid special attention to him.  Look closely at the pictures and see Donald being scared at the parade, and Mickey sword fighting with Jack.  Not pictured is Peter Pan, who made  a sword-fighting motion at Jack from his position atop a parade float!  At the end of the day, Aerin was tired and feeling a little sick, so Jason and Jack rode Goofy's Barnstormer (a kid-sized roller coaster) in Mickey's Toontown Fair three times.  Jack would have ridden it many more if he'd had the time!  We'll hit that earlier next time, for sure.

Absolutely no one enjoyed the parade more than Aerin - year after year it is her favorite (she asked at least once per hour when it was going to start).  She had such a fun time, and also enjoyed visiting Pooh's Playful Spot, a new play area behind the Winnie the Pooh ride in Fantasyland (on the site of the old 20,000 leagues under the sea ride).  Of course she was also excited to ride It's A Small World, her favorite ride as a little kid.

It was a really fun day at Disney - I think we'll go back! :)

Twice as Nice!

We have had two new little ones added to our family this week......2 nieces in 2 days! Both of Suzanne's brothers, Chris and Thom, welcomed new baby girls into the world.

Meet Rebecca Elliot McLean born on Sunday December 3, 2006 at 3:52 am, weighing 5 lbs. 13 oz and 19.5 inches  long. Thom, Tara, big sister Rachel and big sister Hannah are all very excited that she is finally here!

 

And here is Avery Lillina Parton. 8 lbs 7oz born at 7:30 am, Monday December 4, 2006. Chris, Nancy and big brother Andrew are all enjoying her already!

I have been looking for this!

This is the second place finish at the 1994 Sylacauga High School Talent Show.  That's Jason on the left and his buddy Mark Harvard on the right.  We lost to a guy doing a spot-on Janet Jackson impression, which was funny but not as capital-A-AWESOME as this.  You be the judge.  Thanks Mark!

Mission Completion

Our house hunting trip was successful and a new house has been found in the greater Cincinnati area for the Crew family. In mid-December we will be moving to West Chester (northwest of Cincinnati) to this house:

Having some Halloween Fun

We have carved pumpkins (okay, well I carved the pumpkins), made treats (invented some new ones), been to  a Halloween birthday party, trick or treated in Old Town Spring, visited a pumpkin patch and even dressed up the dog (Aerin's idea and what a lovely ballerina she was)!  Curious yet?
